Bringing people together, one sandwich (and smile) at a time.

Doing great things together is a pleasure, sharing an experience magical and so, this month, we are encouraging you to enjoy one of those iconic things we all love the thought of.

What’s the challenge?
Simply this: sometime during July, organise a picnic — big or small — and invite someone who could use a little cheer. It might be an elderly neighbour who’s been a bit isolated, a family new to the area, a friend going through a hard time, or simply someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with.

You don’t need a fancy set-up or a grand menu (though we do love a good strawberry tart and homemade lemonade). Just something thoughtful, shared in good company — a moment that makes life special.

What to Take: Picnic Essentials

A few simple touches can turn an ordinary picnic into something really memorable:

A soft blanket or picnic rug (bonus points for a vintage touch)

Plates, glasses, and cutlery (try reusable over single-use)

A chilled thermos with elderflower cordial or Pimms

A bouquet of flowers in a jam jar

A handwritten menu or note of appreciation for your guest

If you’re feeling especially creative, pack a little surprise — a book, small plant, or homemade gift to leave them smiling.

What to Eat: Easy, Elegant, and Heartfelt

It’s not about perfection — it’s about care and connection. Here are some simple, lovely ideas:

Savouries:

Mini quiches (goat’s cheese and caramelised onion are a winner)

Finger sandwiches – cucumber & cream cheese, egg & cress, or smoked salmon & dill

Homemade sausage rolls – wrap while warm in foil to keep cosy

Sides:

New potato salad with mustard and chives

Heritage tomato and mozzarella skewers with basil drizzle

Sweet treats:

Strawberry shortcake stacks – scones with whipped cream and sliced berries

Lemon drizzle loaf – easy to transport, wonderful with tea

Flapjacks – with oats, honey, and dried fruit

Drinks:

Sparkling elderflower & mint

A chilled rosé or non-alcoholic spritz

Iced tea with fresh peach slices
